Batam Island Info is an independent travel website for people planning a trip to Batam.
We focus on the parts of the trip that usually cause the most confusion: choosing the right ferry terminal, deciding where to stay, getting around the island, understanding entry requirements and working out what can realistically fit into a short visit.
Batam is often treated as an easy side trip from Singapore. The ferry ride may be straightforward, but the rest of the trip still needs some thought. Arriving at the wrong terminal can leave you far from your hotel. A resort in Nongsa offers a very different stay from a hotel near Nagoya. A packed one-day itinerary can lose much of its value once immigration queues and road travel are taken into account.
Our guides are written to make those choices clearer.
Who writes the guides?
Articles on this site are published under the name Batam Island Editorial Team.
This is the editorial byline used by the website. It does not represent a fictional traveller or suggest that every place mentioned has been visited by the same person.
The team researches, reviews and maintains the guides using the approach described on this page.
What we cover
Our main subjects include:
- Ferry routes and terminals
- Entry and arrival planning
- Batam Centre, Nagoya, Nongsa, Sekupang and other areas
- Hotels and resorts
- Taxis, private drivers and local transport
- Beaches, shopping, food and activities
- Day trips and weekend itineraries
- Travel between Batam, Singapore and nearby islands
We do not try to turn every attraction into a must-see. Some places work well for a weekend stay but are poor choices for a rushed day trip. Others are worth visiting only when they fit naturally into the route.
How we research our guides
Research usually begins with the source responsible for the information.
For ferry routes, we check current operator information. For immigration and entry rules, we look for government guidance. Hotel locations, driving distances and terminal access are checked against maps and current property information.
Depending on the subject, sources may include:
- Indonesian government and immigration websites
- Ferry operators and terminal information
- Official hotel and attraction websites
- Maps and location data
- Local transport and booking information
- Recent traveller reports
Traveller reviews are useful for spotting recurring problems such as long queues, poor transfers or misleading locations. They are not automatically treated as fact. One bad experience does not always describe normal conditions.
Firsthand experience and researched information
Not every article is a personal travel diary.
Some guides are based mainly on current schedules, maps, official information and comparisons between different parts of the island. Where firsthand observations are included, they should be presented as such.
We do not turn information found elsewhere into a made-up personal story.
Firsthand experience can also become outdated. A ferry procedure, visa rule, hotel transfer or entrance fee may change, which is why current sources still matter.
How we make recommendations
The best option depends on the trip.
A Nongsa resort may suit someone who wants a quiet weekend near the water. It may be inconvenient for a visitor planning to spend most of the time shopping and eating around Nagoya.
Batam Centre can make arrival and departure simple, but it is not automatically the best base for every itinerary. A cheap hotel can become less attractive once daily taxi journeys are added.
We try to explain these trade-offs instead of producing a list where every hotel, beach and activity receives the same praise.
Prices, schedules and entry rules
Ferry times, ticket prices, visa rules, opening hours and transport costs can change.
We review guides when we find a meaningful change. The updated date should reflect a real check or revision, not a cosmetic change made to keep the page looking new.
Before travelling, readers should confirm time-sensitive information with the relevant ferry company, hotel, attraction or government authority.
Affiliate links
Some pages may contain affiliate links to hotels, tours, transport services or booking websites.
If a reader makes a booking through one of these links, Batam Island Info may receive a commission. This does not normally increase the price paid by the reader.
The presence of an affiliate link does not guarantee a positive recommendation. We may still point out an inconvenient location, weak value, extra transport cost or a better option for a particular type of trip.
Paid or sponsored content, if accepted, should be identified clearly.
Corrections
Batam changes quickly. Businesses close, ferry procedures are revised and information that was correct during one trip may no longer be useful a few months later.
If you notice an error, please send us the page URL and explain what needs to be checked. A link to an official or current source is helpful but not required.
Verified errors are corrected as soon as reasonably possible.
Independence
Batam Island Info is an independent publication.
It is not operated by the Batam city government, an Indonesian tourism authority, an immigration office, a ferry company, a hotel group or a booking platform.
